Greenville High School head coach Quintarus McCray said he was proud of the way his team battled back in the second half Friday night in the Hornets’ 49-26 homecoming loss to Starkville High School.
The Hornets trailed Starkville 43-8 at halftime, but kept fighting and battling in the game’s final two quarters.
“Our guys never quit and that was important,” Coach McCray said.
Errick Simmons Jr. scored three touchdowns in the game for Greenville. Simmons caught two touchdowns and also ran back a kickoff for a touchdown.
Last season, Greenville (3-4) lost 79-0 to nothing to Starkville (6-2).
“They have a great team,” Coach McCray said. “But we have to do the small things better. That is what is separating us from the good teams right now.”
Greenville is scheduled to travel to South Panola next Friday.
