Since they were in the seventh grade Washington School soccer players Eli Fratesi, Will Giachelli and Thomas Barr have been preparing for this moment.
The trio of Generals joined the varsity soccer team that year. As the seasons have gone by they have honed their crafts to be the best soccer players they can be.
Head coach Jeffrey Giachelli said the three are now set to help their team make a run at the state championship.
“These kids are a close knit group,” Coach Giachelli said. “They have given me everything that I have asked of them, and I am really proud of what they have done.
Coming off an 8-0 shutout victory over Magnolia Heights last Friday, Washington has compiled a 9-3-3 record this season. The Generals have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 56-11.
The strength of this years team is the midfield, and the two strongest players at this position have been Will Giachelli and Thomas Barr. By controlling the middle of the soccer field Barr and Giachelli have helped Fratesi score 20 goals this season.
The General defense, anchored by Caleb Janous, Mason Johnson and goal keeper Bogan Brewer have been strong as well. John Bentley Suares has also been a key contributor this seaon.
The Generals start their playoff run next Monday at home where they will host either Copiah Academy or East Rankin Academy.
Coach Giachelli hopes to use the week off to help his team rest.
“We have basically been running in mud the last couple of games, and that takes a toll on our players,” Coach Giachelli said.
“We are going to try and get as healthy as we can.”
