Washington School’s Owen Hardin and Lawton Poole, the Planters Bank Players of the Week, have the natural talent to be great cross country runners, but it is their hard work that helps them reach the finish line in front.
ARCOLA — Jarod Satterfield scored three touchdowns to lead the Deer Creek School Warriors to another victory Friday night in the Warriors 54-14 victory over North Sunflower Academy.
“It was a good victory, but we have to keep working harder because we have no room for error,” Deer Creek School coach Benny McLendon said.
Both the Greenville Christian Saints (4-5) and the Indianola Academy Colonels (5-4) entered Friday night’s contest trying to better their playoff positioning after slow starts to the 2019 regular season.

In a blowout 55-20 homecoming win over the Bayou Academy Colts (1-8), the St. Joe Fighting Irish remained perfect at 9-0 Friday night. The win also extends the state’s longest current winning streak to 20 games.

It was in the fourth overtime when Leland High School’s Jaquez Phillips finally finished it off for the Leland Cubs Friday night in Leland’s 20-14 road victory against rival O’Bannon High School.
GRENADA — The Washington School cross country teams had outstanding showings at the Kirk Academy Invitational in Grenada Thursday. The boys finished in first place in the two-miles run and the girls finished second place in the two mile run.
From 25 yards out, Larry Anderson ran in the winning touchdown to lead his Bears to victory Monday night in a 7-9 year-old flag football game at the Wards Recreation Center.
It’s time to get rid of instant replay. I reached this conclusion, finally, while watching the Memphis Tigers football team get totally robbed last Saturday in a game against Temple. The Tigers came into the game with a perfect 5-0 record, one of their best starts in a long time.
O’Bannon High School’s Zion Jessie, the Planters Bank Player of the Week, is one of only eight seniors on this year’s Greenwaves team. It is his job to set an example for the players on his young team. Despite the early set backs this season for O’Bannon, Jessie has always worked hard at getting better.
