Confederate emblem remains on Mississippi flag as bills die

Two Mississippi state flags wave outside the Capitol in Jackson, Miss., in this Jan. 22, 2019 photograph. Mississippi legislative committees are again killing bills to either remove the Confederate battle emblem from the state flag or require universities to fly the state banner. The state has used the flag since 1894 and it is the last state banner featuring the Confederate emblem that critics say is racist and supporters say is a symbol of history. (AP Photo/Rogelio V.
