The Greenville City Council met with and heard the proposal for a potential contract with Water Company of America, The focus of the company is data analysis, on-site investigation, and unbilled revenue.
Mike Williams, WCA’s Contract Manager said, ”Since the 1990s, WCA has specialized in locating, assessing and correcting problem conditions in the field related to water metering, wastewater collection and stormwater; as well as utility billing database discrepancies, thereby increasing utility revenues.”
WCA has former Mayor of Hattiesburg John (Johnny) Dupree as its Marketing Partner.
Dupree, was Hattiesburg’s first African American Mayor from 2001 to 2017, told the Council that Vicksburg has about as many water meters as Greenville, and WCA found close to $100,000 in unbilled revenue a year for the city, at no cost to the city of Vicksburg.
Councilwoman Lurann Thomas-Kingdom inquired if the company wanted to install the new meters, Mike Necaise. former CFO for the City of Gulfport, and Regional Manager for WCA said, ”No we don’t touch the meters, that WCA analyzed data looking for discrepancies, after the new meters are installed The scope of contract could change, we would be looking to make sure all of the information is correct and routing to the right places. But that is strictly up to the discretion of the Council.”
The council voted to award the contract to WCA on a limited scale for one year, to see if the results merit a longer engagement.
Mike Williams said, “I would like to applaud Mayor Simmons, and the council, for forward thinking public service, the citizens of Greenville should be proud that your elected officials are concerned at the accuracy of their sewer and water billing systems.”
