College football is probably the most liked and watched by us in the United States. Many others including myself are not in favor of these crazy expansions.
I am upset with the SEC letting Texas and Oklahoma come into the conference. This is helping to destroy the Big Twelve. Have these two schools become too good to remain and help that conference to continue to remain strong. There appears to be a little arrogance on their part. Both of these schools have maintained success in football over the years.
Nebraska thought they were bettering themselves by joining the Big Ten (didn’t happen for them or for Colorado who joined the Pac-12). And Southern Cal & UCLA and joining the Big Ten. Few of their fans will be attending away games due to the distances they will be from (as much as 1,500 or more).
Back in 1950’s & 1960’s Arkansas won the Southwest Conference when there was only six teams in the conference meaning that they were better than only five other teams. Hey, this was a big deal then. With the SEC going to 16 teams means that there will be one conference winner over 15 other teams.
Why would the present SEC schools (especially the weaker teams) want to compete against two bully schools that they will lose to 75% of the time. I kind of wish Arkansas and Missouri would join the Big-12 as Oklahoma and Texas move into the SEC. Being in the Big-12 would be good in that there will be a more balanced conference teams. This would create a more competitive conference to the point where it would be difficult to predict who will win on any particular year.
Unfortunately with all these present teams moving to other conferences, it likely would leave only three strong conferences. The remaining conference teams likely would not have much of a chance in getting into the play-offs. I’ve always wished that the SEC was so balanced that Vanderbilt would have a chance of winning the conference in football.
Present college rules should not allow transfers to move to another team without having to sit out a year. This and other issues are detrimental to college sports. The present system is referred to as NIL (its meaning doesn’t make any sense).
