Miscellaneous comments on the passing scene:
Later this year it will be 62 years since I entered the United States as an immigrant. I had the required paperwork, obtained a green card, and worked to support my family. Today, however, immigrants are jumping the southern border in unprecedented numbers without entering the proper way. Reminds me of the biblical description of one who tries to enter the sheepfold by climbing up some other way. He is described as a thief or a robber. There are those who try to sugar-coat the illegals' actions by saying that those people are undocumented workers. Let's not beat about the bush. They are law breakers, pure and simple. They are here illegally.

Yesterday, as I write this, there was a news report on a major news channel that reported on the murder of a female student at the University of Georgia. Some of the details were given, but the MSM channel intentionally omitted to report that the perpetrator was an illegal immigrant and had previously committed many crimes. I wonder why. Surely it couldn't be that they didn't want a negative slant to be placed on the administration's border policy, could it? The news from another channel is full of crimes committed by illegals, some who have been apprehended multiple times.

In recent days it has been reported that Alexei Navalny, a Russian challenger to Vladimir Putin in the upcoming election, has been found dead in his prison cell. Poisoning is suspected. Another potential challenger, Boris Nadezhdin, had 105,000 signatures to put him on the ballot where 100,000 were required. But by sheer coincidence 9,000 of the signatures were found to be invalid bringing him below the stipulated requirement. So, his name will not appear on the ballot. Following Navalny's death (suspected murder), President Biden introduced further sanctions on Russia for this election interference.
Could election interference be experienced in this country? What if an opposition candidate was bombarded with multiple legal suits and very steep financial penalties thus impairing his ability to campaign? Wouldn't that be election interference? The same question would arise if attempts were made to remove his name from election ballots in some states. * * *
The Senate has passed a new $118 billion immigration bill. Most of the money is designated for supporting the wars in Ukraine and Israel/Palestine. However, the bill also attempts to address the southwest border crisis. It allows 5,000 illegals to enter each day for seven consecutive days, or 8,500 on any single day, before an emergency must be declared. Then the border would essentially be closed for a while. (Secretary Mayorkas has said until very recently that the border is already closed. Let's hope he's not in charge of any emergency closing.) The House Republicans say that this bill will be dead on arrival. Let's see why.
There would still be considerable illegal entries under this plan. During Trump's presidency there were 500,000 for the total year of 2020. The highest monthly total was 133,000 in May 2019. Under Biden the total for the single month of January 2024 was a whopping 800,000. In reality no new bill is required. Biden has the executive ability to reinstate the Trump restrictions that he rescinded on his first day in office.
But wait, the sugar-coating just got worse. The White House is now calling the illegals NEWCOMERS!
