On Monday, August 19, the Greenville Police Department responded to a call from the 700 block of Manilla regarding a father who had taken his child and not returned home. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the infant’s mother, who reported that the child’s father, Raphael Montgomery, had left their 3-month-old son in the car while he was at work.
Officers then contacted Delta Health Systems, where hospital staff confirmed that the infant was deceased. Montgomery was taken into custody and transported to the police department, where he was charged with Felony Child Deprivation of Necessaries with Substantial Harm.
He is currently being held at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility awaiting his initial appearance.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
