Mayor Errick Simmons announces the renaming of Theobald St. between Main St. and Washington Ave. to honor the legendary blues musician and cultural icon, Bobby Rush.
This momentous occasion will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm and we invite all residents and fans of music to join us in celebrating the extraordinary life and career of Rush.
Rush, a two-time Grammy Award winner, is a pioneering figure in the blues genre, known for his electrifying performances and unique blend of traditional blues, soul, and funk. With a career spanning over six decades, Rush has made significant contributions to music and culture, embodying the spirit of resilience and creativity that defines our community. He has inspired countless musicians and continues to be a vibrant force in the industry.
The street renaming ceremony will include remarks from city officials and a chance for community members to celebrate Rush's impactful legacy. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and pay tribute to a true musical legend.
