Thursday night Oct. 24, the E.E. Bass Cultural Arts Center held its annual Costumes on the Carousel event for the kids.
The air in the hall leading to the carousel was electric with anticipation children darted to and fro A team of young volunteers was on hand with games galore for the kids, and even a face painting station.
Notable parents at the event were Justin Burch, CEO of the Washington County Economic Alliance with his wife and two children, and Mary Cathrine Brooks, Director of the WCEA with he husband and two daughters, who took home the silliest costume prize.
Krystal Lynn Huddleston’s Tripp Heyman stole the show with his Donald J. Trump costume, but they left before the costume contest so we’ll never know if he would have won.
Before he left though his mother was sure to tell the DD-T that Mr. Trump said MAGA.
Besides all of the games and treats the main attraction was the carousel, which is one of the oldest functioning carousels in North America.
When Floyd Sterling, the custodian at E.E. Bass fired the ride up, children climbed aboard by the dozens, at one point all of the horses and carriages were full leaving parents standing by and holding on.
As the evening wound down, and the last-minute games were played by the kids, some of the parents had that last sip of the pink goo Cody Ruth, who was holding down the refreshment area said was a Brain Grinder.
Slowly the candy and prizes were packed up and the evening was over, until next year that is.
