The Board of Supervisor’s Attorney Willie Griffin, during the BOS meeting on Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, said, “It was a real shame the Greenville Christmas Parade got canceled, People love that Parade and it was a sad day for all when it was taken from us this year.”
The Christmas Parade Griffin is referring to got postponed first and then canceled outright. Speculation and rumors about why the parade was canceled range from Bomb threats to retaliations for the shooting deaths the weekend before the Parade. Danial Boggs, CEO of Greater Greenville Housing and Revitalization Association, wouldn’t comment beyond his statement of unforeseen circumstances,
Mayor Simmons said There is some truth to the rumors and The Board’s Attorney Wille Griffin said, “Threats were made, that’s all I’ll say.”
“The Martin Luther King Jr. Parade will be on Jan. 13, 2024, at 11 am starting at the Washington County Courthouse.
Carl Magee said, “Following the Parade, on Jan. 15, the MLK program will be held at The House of Mercy on Alexander Street, he wasn’t sure if it was going to start at 11 or 11:30 but he was sure the Key-note speaker was going to be Congressman Bennie G. Thompson.
“This Parade Will not be canceled.” Willie Griffin said.
