The Greenville Police Department would like to commend Sgt. Chaka Gaines for his actions on April 15, 2024, by administering life-saving chest compressions to a victim suffering a possible heart attack.
Sgt. Gaines responded to the 600 block of Highway 1 South to a call of a motorist possibly having a heart attack. Sgt. Gaines along with Investigator Johnathan West removed the person from the vehicle and administered chest compressions after no pulse was found.
Due to the officer’s actions, it is believed the victim had a greater chance of survival.
“We commend the quick response and selfless actions of our officers, who went above and beyond the call of duty,” Chief Marcus Turner says. “We acknowledge their daily sacrifices for our department and our community.”
