Mayor Errick Simmons said President Joe Biden declared Juneteenth a federal holiday three years ago.
In celebration, the City of Greenville, in partnership with several community stakeholders, will have a week-long series of Juneteenth activities beginning with the Flag Raising Ceremony on the steps of City Hall on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
“All are encouraged to join as we, together as one, lift the conditions of all people during this celebrated day, long observed by the Black community, as a day for everyone to celebrate the strength, power, and resilience it took to overcome slavery,” Simmons said. “This is our collective opportunity to recommit to the strength, spirit, and love that has defined the Black community throughout generations”
