There was a time about three decades ago when the stretch of South Broadway just west of downtown Greenville was the location of three sets of well-maintained apartments with the Royal Ridge serving as the crown jewel. Over the years, blight and dilapidation caused many of the residents to move and demolition ensued. However, as evidenced by ongoing construction of 48 state of the art units affordable housing will soon make a return. A regional spokesperson for the Riverbend Apartments overseen by Valid Street Partners LP said in a phone interview on Monday that the apartments will have modern amenities such as washers and dryers and security systems. “The apartments will be completed in phases where we complete construction of one, two, and three bedroom units,” the spokesperson explained. “We’ve already been receiving applications and pages one which is the completion of the three bedroom units will begin with tenants moving in somewhere around mid to late September. In phase two, there will be an office established onsite.”
Construction on these three story units began in March and is scheduled to conclude in November. The spokesperson also shared that the units are designed to be affordable and are open to a range of applicants who must qualify. “There is a certain criteria that tenants must meet and we encourage all interested people to apply. We use fair housing criteria to determine if an applicant meets eligibility requirements.” There will also be five units that are completely ADA certified. The Riverbend Apartments occupy a key location in Councilwoman Lurann Thomas-Kingdom’s Ward 4. “It’s very important that people in Ward 4 have access to quality affordable housing in an area that is safe and provides a high quality of living,” Kingdom explained. “Now, when people drive into and out of downtown Greenville, these apartments will provide a beautiful landmark to showcase the city. And I also think that these apartments are good economic development tools for our citizens.” Kingdom has served as an unofficial contact person routing interested citizens to the proper channels to receive application information. Alecea Henderson will serve as the community/property manager for Riverbend Apartments. For more information, call (769) 227-1892.
