Hazardous residential properties were the focus of a recent Washington County public hearing, as officials discussed sanitation concerns and the public health risks posed by unclean conditions.
County officials opened the hearing by announcing the topic of discussion as “properties in such a state of uncleanliness that it creates a menace to public health and safety.” The repeated announcement signaled the county’s emphasis on addressing conditions that may pose a threat to residents and surrounding areas.
“We’re about to go into a public hearing to discuss properties that create a menace to public health and safety,” said District 3 Supervisor Carl McGee. The board reviewed documents, answered questions, and allowed public comment, indicating that multiple properties are under evaluation for violations of county health regulations.
Board members discussed possible next steps, including recall procedures and additional votes, while noting the importance of following due process for property owners.
The county plans to continue enforcement efforts.
