The Grenada County Sheriff’s Office under the leadership of new Sheriff Garrett Hartley is proving that it is not playing games.
Wednesday afternoon, the office headed up a search warrant that shut down an illegal casino operation within the Grenada city limits. The Mississippi Gaming Commission and other state agencies assisted in the bust. The brick building housing the illegal casino is located at the corner of Lakeview Drive and Futheyville Road.
“Upon entry, two male attendants were detained,” Sheriff Hartley said. “Approximately 10 video gambling machines were discovered, along with U.S. currency used for gambling.”

According to a press release, all necessary evidence was collected from the gambling machines. Shortly thereafter, the machines were destroyed onsite in accordance with state law. All associated currency was also seized for forfeiture.
Mohamed Lemin was transported to the Grenada County Jail and was booked on charges in violation of Mississippi Statute 97-33-7 Operating Gambling and Lotteries.
“This is a result of ongoing investigations into illegal activity in Grenada County,” Chief Deputy Ricky Williamson concluded.
The case remains under investigation.
