An altercation Monday night inside a residence in the 700 block of South Street in Grenada left one man dead and another behind bars after shots rang out.
According to Grenada Police Department Chief George Douglas, 26-year-old Johnathan Sanders of Grenada is currently being held in the Grenada County Jail on a $250,000 bond after being arrested for the shooting death of 36-year-old Nicolaus Marquis Cole.
At approximately 7:57 p.m., on Nov. 27, GPD officers responded to the shooting call and discovered that Cole had been shot inside the residence, Chief Douglas said. He was then transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Grenada.
“He was immediately airlifted to another medical center outside of Grenada County for treatment,” Chief Douglas added.
Sanders was arrested, initially charged with aggravated assault and placed behind bars at the Grenada County Jail. The next day, Tuesday, Nov. 28, while GPD investigators continued their probe into the events leading up to the shooting, Cole died as a result of the injuries sustained in the shooting and Sanders’ charges were upgraded to murder.
The GPD continues to investigate the deadly incident.
