Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a homicide after a body was retrieved from a vehicle spotted in Lake Ferguson last weekend.
At approximately 12:07 p.m. Saturday, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Lake Ferguson Road North in reference to a vehicle, a 2006 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, being submerged in the water.
According to Assistant Chief Deputy Billy Barber, deputies notified a wrecker service to pull the vehicle out. While the truck was being pulled out of the water, deputies noticed a man’s body inside of the vehicle, who appeared to be dead.
“The county coroner was called and pronounced the subject deceased,” Barber said in a statement.
The victim was later identified as a white male, Eric Lester, 42.
“It appeared that Lester could have been shot and succumbed to his wounds,” Barber said.
The body was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Laboratory for autopsy.
No arrests have been made at this time and the case is being investigated as a homicide.
