HOLLANDALE — Police are investigating three incidents that occurred over the weekend, two of which resulted in injuries from two separate shootings on Saturday and Sunday morning and the other, a hit and run traffic accident.
The two shootings occurred in the downtown area — the 200 block of Morgan Street outside of Levels Lounge — as the Simmons High School Homecoming festivities were concluding with some celebrations carrying over into the midnight hour.
According to Hollandale Police Chief Marcus Davis, initial findings revealed there were multiple suspects involved in Saturday morning’s shooting while officers with the HPD were attempting to close down the clubs and clear the crowd of people on Morgan Street.
Davis stated the victim is a 26-year-old male who sustained a gunshot wound to his back as well as one of his legs.
“The police, along with the victim’s family, managed to get the victim out of the crowded area to Highway 61 to be transported to Delta Health-The Medical Center by Pafford EMS,” Davis said. “The victim was then taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for further treatment for critical injuries.”
In an attempt to expedite transport of the victim to EMS for medical treatment, the Hollandale Police Department wrecked one of its patrol cars.
“The officer involved in the accident received minor injuries,” Davis stated.
On Sunday morning, as officers with the HPD and Washington County Sheriff Department were once again attempting to close down the club and clear the area of crowds on Morgan Street, gunshots rang out.
At approximately 1 a.m. Sunday morning, HPD received reports of a shot person on the 200 block of Morgan St.
Once on scene, officers discovered the victim was a 23-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the face.
“The victim’s life was in the balance until an unknown citizen helped the police keep the victim alive by administering CPR until the arrival of Pafford EMS,” Davis said. “The victim was transported to Delta Health-The Medical Center and later to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for further treatment.”
Also on Sunday around 1:30 a.m., the Hollandale Police Department was advised of a hit and run traffic accident on the 700 block of East Ave North in Hollandale.
“The accident involved a black Nissan Altima being struck by an unidentified vehicle causing a head injury to the rear passenger,” Davis stated. “The injured passenger was identified as Mr. Marquet Allen, 25, of Greenville.”
Allen was transported by Pafford EMS to Delta Health-The Medical Center for medical attention. Around 4:30 a.m., he was pronounced dead.
The Hollandale Police Department is asking if anyone has any information pertaining to this accident to call Chief Davis at 662-827-2212 and to keep the family of Mr. Allen in their prayers.
Davis stated, “There will be changes on how we deal with these after parties and traffic during big events in Hollandale.”
