At approximately 5:46 p.m., Tuesday, the Washington County Sheriff Department responded to a call in the 100 block of Grove St., Arcola, in reference to a shot person.
Deputies located a black male, approximately 16 years of age, who was the victim of a gunshot.
The victim was examined by Pafford Ambulance Service, who tried to revive him and was unsuccessful.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County coroner.
While investigating, it was learned a black, male suspect — 20-year-old Montreal Daetrion Harris was arrested and charged with murder in the first degree and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Investigation is ongoing and more charges could follow.
