The Greenville Police Department is investigating a burned body found on Amber Road this week.
At 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, officers responded to a call from a local resident after a body was found on Amber Road.
"A concerned resident called and advised they had located what appeared to be a body on Amber Road," said Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant.
The person's body appeared to have suffered burns and due to the severity of the injuries, officers were unable to determine the person's gender, race or age, Merchant said.
The Washington County Coroner responded and pronounced the person as deceased on scene.
"Investigators are currently following up all leads at this time. An autopsy is expected and we will release more information as it becomes available," Merchant said, noting no further information is available at this time.
