A man who died from several gunshot wounds was found lying on a sidewalk this morning.
Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said police received a welfare concern call from a local resident who found the body of the 26-year-old black male, whose name has not been released, in the 800 block of Union Street.
“Upon arrival, the officers discovered the subject appeared to have been shot several times,” Merchant said, noting the location of the shots on the body are not being disclosed at this time.
Paramedics were dispatched along with the Washington County Coroner, who pronounced the man as deceased on scene.
“Investigators are actively following up on leads to this incident. No suspects are available at this time,” Merchant said.
