One man died and another is in critical condition after a dispute Friday morning turned violent.
At 9:10 a.m. Friday, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of Dent Street in reference to a shot person.
Upon arrival, Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said officers found an injured 30-year-old black male who appeared to have been shot.
“Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after and began life saving techniques before transporting him to Delta Regional Medical Center,” he said.
The man, whose name has not been released, died from his injuries at the hospital.
Investigators with the Greenville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division determined the victim had been in a dispute with another black male over a possible car title, according to Merchant.
“While the officers were on scene, they were advised that another subject had arrived at DRMC by personal vehicle and had also been shot,” he said.
The person who drove himself to the hospital is a 21-year-old black male, whose name has not been released at this time, and was flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.
Merchant said investigators believe both men shot each other at the scene.
“This incident is being investigated and charges may follow,” Merchant said.
If anyone has any information about what happened, they are urged to call the Greenville Police Department at 662-378-1515 or Crimestoppers at 662-378-8477.
