MONROE, La. — The St. Joseph Catholic School football team moved its record to a perfect 7-0 with a 44-7 victory against River Oaks.
St. Joseph coach John Baker said he was especially pleased with the way his defense played in the game.
Linebacker Brittain Virden had six tackles on the night, while free safety Trey Benson registered five tackles and a forced fumble.
St. Joe’s Kaleb Lockett scored the first points for the Fighting Irish on their first offensive possession of the game after quarterback Mekhi Norris hit Lockett on a 60-yard touchdown pass.
Benson finished the night with two touchdowns, and Rhoderick Gentry also scored in the game for the Irish.
Coach Baker said he was pleased with the win, but his Irish are now looking squarely at their big showdown next Friday night when they host Pillow Academy.
“That is going to be a big one,” Coach Baker said.
