Delta Center Stage’s 2022-2023 performance lineup include four classic stage productions familiar to Delta residents.
“To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Driving Miss Daisy,” “9 to 5” and “A Christmas Carol,” were chosen because they are known commodities, according to DCS Executive Director Tim Bixler.
“The new season has been carefully planned to attract audiences back to Jake and Freda Stein Hall,” Bixler said. “Increased attendance is the goal.”
While the two years of the pandemic were a strain on DCS’ operations, the last season has helped the organization to recover financially.
“DCS is more than fully recovered financially and organizationally from the forced pandemic shutdown,” Bixler said. “Attendance (audience headcount) is still below pre-pandemic levels.”
While the COVID-19 virus is still a concern, DCS has taken strides to ensure safety while attending a performance.
The building’s HVAC system has been upgraded to include a UV purification system which destroys all living elements in the air flow.
The upcoming season will include:
* Disney’s “Descendants The Musical”: Set to run Aug. 4-7, already in rehearsal with a cast of over 50 young people;
* Annual Cemetery Tour: Fourth weekend in October — Seven new stories of our community’s ancestors;
* “A Christmas Carol” Early December — A fresh new version of the Christmas classic from a new Canadian playwright.
* “9 to 5” the Musical: Late Feb. — Fresh off of a very successful nationwide tour, Dolly Parton’s music and lyrics bring the old 80’s hit movie back to life.
* “Driving Miss Daisy”: Early April — It’s been more than 15 years since we last staged this timeless and ageless classic. Likely will be staged in our intimate stadium style seating.
* “To Kill A Mockingbird” Late May — Either the classic Sergel script, or possibly the new Aaron Sorkin version if available by then. (currently running on Broadway)
