The Greenville Unit of Church Women United, a racially, culturally, theologically inclusive Christian Women’s Movement will host its State Assembly, Friday, October 27-Saturday, October 28 at First Presbyterian Church, 1 John Calvin Circle, Greenville, Mississippi. The theme for the conference is “ Christian Women Turning the World Toward God’s Love Through Social Justice, Human Rights and Diversity”. The two-day assembly will feature CWU units from Greenville and Jackson, Mississippi. During this assembly, new officers will be elected for the 2024-2025 period.
Church Women United, a Christian Women’s Movement was founded in 1941 and works for a world of peace and justice. It represents Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian Women, is organized into more than 1200 local and state units, and is impassioned by the Holy Spirit to act on behalf of women and children throughout the world. CWU is recognized as a non-governmental organization by the United Nations.
Major ‘service opportunities’ of the Greenville Unit include Mississippi State Hospital Christmas House Project, Annual Scholarships, Fellowship of the Least Coin Movement (prayer for peace and reconciliation). The Unit also contributes funds for disaster relief and economic development in the United States and around the world. The Annual Celebrations include May Friendship Day, World Day of Prayer, Human Rights Day and World Community Day. Leonia Dorsey is president of the Greenville Unit and Martha Bray is chairman of the State Assembly.
