Washington School celebrated its 53rd Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 29 at the Generals’ game against the Delta Streets Academy Lions. The theme was “Generals in Hollywood," and the presentation of the court and the naming of the Generals’ Lady will took place prior to the game at 6:30 p.m. on Huddleston Field.
The homecoming maids will be escorted onto the field by a family member. The highlight will be the announcement of the Generals’ Lady, chosen by the high school students from the three senior maids.
Festivities on Friday began with a parade at noon, followed by a pep rally, where each maid was presented and escorted by a football player from her class. After the game, high school students celebrated at a dance.

Miss AnnElise Marie Hughes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Lynn Hughes, Junior of Greenville. Miss Hughes was escorted at the pep rally by Mr. Daniel Dominick Signa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Emile Signa, III of Benoit. She was presented on the field by her father.
AnnElise was selected to be on the homecoming court during her freshman year.
Throughout her high school years, she was inducted into the National Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta math honors society, and Rho Kappa history honors society. AnnElise is currently serving as the Senior Class Representative of Beta Club. She has been on the Head of School’s list for the last three years.
Having served on the Washington School Student Council throughout middle and high school, AnnElise was her Freshman and Sophomore Class President. She filled a major office role as Vice President her Junior year, and this year AnnElise was elected Washington School’s Student Council President. She has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students since 9th grade.
AnnElise has been a cheerleader since 7th grade. Her freshman year, she was co-captain of the Junior Varsity squad, while at the same time cheering on the Varsity squad. She is a Pin It forward award recipient, three time UCA All-American, and recently named a member of the MAIS All-Star Spirit Squad. Her freshman and sophomore years, she was chosen for the Cheerleader 4 Life award, and this year she serves her squad as Captain. AnnElise has supported the baseball team by working as a Diamond Girl since 9th grade, and in 10th grade she earned the award of Super General in the weight room.
An active member of the Sub-Deb Cotillion in 9th through 11th grades, AnnElise served the club as vice president her sophomore year, and president her junior year.
She has spent her free time volunteering for Hearty Helpings, the Rotary Club, and Delta Cotton Belles. AnnElise attends First Baptist Church of Greenville, where she is an active member on the youth leadership committee.
Miss Haley Nicole May is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mark Stokes of Greenville. She was escorted at the pep rally by Mr. William Garrett Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Paul Cole of Greenville. Haley was presented on the field by her father.
As a sophomore, Haley was selected as a homecoming maid. For her scholastic achievements, Haley was inducted into the National Beta Club last year. She is also a member of Rho Kappa history honors society and Fellowship of Christian Students.
She serves as a Senior Class Representative for Washington School Student Council.
Haley has worked as a photographer for the Washington School’s award-winning Sabre Yearbook since 7th grade. She is a member of the varsity cheer squad and has been a cheerleader since the 7th grade. Haley was chosen for the Cheer Excellence Award during her freshman year, is a two-time UCA All American, a Pin It Forward recipient, and just recently named a member of the MAIS All-Star Spirit Squad. During her freshman year, Haley discovered a love for running and joined the cross country team and the track and field team. She continued her track career through her Junior year, where she was awarded Most Improved member of the team.
Haley was a member of the Sub Deb Cotillion during 9th through 11th grades.

Miss Mary Paxton Weathers is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Perrin Weathers of Greenville. She was escorted at the pep rally by Mr. Nathan Alden Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward James Thompson of Leland. She was presented on the field by her father.
Mary Paxton represented her class as a freshman maid. She has been elected Class Favorite her Freshman and Sophomore years. Mary Paxton was inducted into the National Beta Club as a freshman, and into Mu Alpha Theta math honors society as a sophomore. As a junior, she was inducted into the Rho Kappa history honors society, where she currently serves as Vice President. She has been a member of the Washington School Student Council throughout high school, where she served as a class secretary her freshman year and class vice president her sophomore and junior year. Mary Paxton took on a major role as the Commissioner of Student Welfare for her senior year.
Since 7th grade, Mary Paxton has been a member of the varsity cheerleading squad. She is a two-time UCA All-American, received the Lady General award her freshman year, the Excellence award her junior year, and as a senior, serves as co-captain and member of the MAIS All-Star Spirit Squad. Mary Paxton has been playing Lady Generals softball since 8th grade and has been named most improved player, a two-time all conference player, and was awarded the title for most RBIs last season. As a top scorer for the Washington School shooting team, she holds the team’s female highest score for 9th, 10th and 11th grades. A new member to the archery team last year, Mary Paxton brought home the highest shooter award for females. She has competed on the track and field team, and earned Super General in the weight room her sophomore year.
Mary Paxton was a member of the Sub Deb Cotillion during 9th through 11th grades and served as the treasurer during her 11th grade year. She volunteers regularly, and serves as a Presbyterian Youth Council leader at Camp Hopewell. She is also a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Youth Group.
Representing the junior class this year are Kendall Rose Durastanti and Margaret Page Wade.
Miss Kendall Rose Durastanti is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Augustus Durastanti of Scott. She was escorted at the pep rally by Mr. James David Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Earl Bennett of Lake Village, Arkansas. For the field presentation, her father escorted her.
Kendall has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students and Students Against Destructive Decisions since her freshman year. Throughout her high school career, Kendall has been on the Head of School’s List for academic achievement. Just recently, Kendall was selected to represent Washington School in the Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy.
Since the 7th grade, Kendall has been a member of the Generals cheer squad, and has been on the soccer team since 6th grade. During her freshman year, Kendall received the Best Defensive Player award for soccer and the Lady General award for cheerleading.
Kendall has also been a member of Sub Deb Cotillion since 9th grade and is currently serving as this year’s Fundraiser Chairman. This past summer, Kendall attended a Chrysalis Walk and is an active member of Leland United Methodist Church.
Miss Margaret Page Wade is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Douglas Wade, Junior of Greenville. Miss Wade was escorted at the pep rally by Mr. Prentiss Samuel Doolittle, son of Dr. and Mrs. Jeffery Samuel Doolittle of Greenville. She was escorted onto the field that evening by her father.
Since 9th grade, Maggie has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Students Against Destructive Decisions. She was also inducted into the National Beta Club her freshman year. Last year, Maggie was inducted into Mu Alpha Theta math honors society. This year, she is a member of the Washington School Student Council, serving as a homeroom representative. Maggie was recently chosen to serve in the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy.
Maggie has been a cheerleader and member of the soccer and tennis teams since 7th grade. Her freshman year, she was awarded Most Improved Player for soccer. She ran track her sophomore year and currently runs cross country.
An active member of Sub Deb Cotillion since 9th grade, Maggie currently serves as the Corresponding Secretary. She can be found volunteering at Saint Vincent DePaul and Rise Against Hunger. Maggie attended North Mississippi Chrysalis this past summer. She is a member of the St. James Episcopal Church of Greenville.
Representing the sophomore class will be Madeline Dillard Dees and Emelie Heard Walker.
Miss Madeline Dillard Dees is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dillard Dees of Greenville. She was escorted at the pep rally by Mr. Evan McDaniel Hardin, son of Ms. Jaime Woods Hardin and Mr. James Earl Hardin, both of Greenville. Madeline was presented on the field by her father.
During Madeline’s sophomore year, she was inducted into the National Beta Club for her scholastic achievements. For the last two years, she has been serving as her class representative on the Washington School Student Council and has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students.
Madeline has been a member of both the Lady Generals basketball team and track team since her freshman year. She is also a Diamond Girl for the baseball team.
Madeline has been an active member of Sub-Deb Cotillion for the last two years.
This past summer, she traveled to Costa Rica with Education First Tours alongside some of her classmates. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Greenville and is an active participant in their youth program.
Miss Emelie Heard Walker is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Heard Walker of Leland. She was escorted at the pep rally by Mr. Turner Melton Hitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Taftan Hitt of Greenville. For the field presentation, she was escorted by her father.
For scholastic achievements, Emelie was inducted into the National Beta Club last year. She is currently serving as Student Council Sophomore Class Representative.
Emelie was on the junior varsity cheerleading squad throughout middle school.
As a freshman, Emelie served as the captain of the junior varsity squad where she received the Cheerleader 4 Life award, which is voted on by her teammates. She is now a part of the varsity cheerleading squad. Emelie has been a member of the tennis team for the last two years. As a freshman on the soccer team, Emelie received the award for Most Improved Player. During last year’s track season, she qualified for the 5A Overall State 2 Mile Relay, won the 5A junior high district 400 meter dash, and was awarded Most Valuable Performer of her team.
Outside of school, Emelie has been an active member of Sub-Deb Cotillion for the last year and currently serves as Vice President. She enjoys volunteering at Christmas on the Creek in Leland each year. Emelie has studied abroad in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and traveled with her peers to Costa Rica through Education First Tours. She attends First Baptist Church in Leland.
Annabella Augusta Durastanti and Avery Elizabeth Selby will represent the freshman class.
Miss Annabella Augusta Durastanti is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Augustus Durastanti of Scott. Bella will be escorted at the pep rally by Mr. Baird Ashley
Bryant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ashley Chadwick Bryant of Greenville. Her cousin, Mr. Matthew Jackson Mosow, presented her on the field.
Bella was an active member of the middle school student council, where she served as a homeroom representative during 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Currently, she is a freshman class representative. Bella has continuously been on the honor roll.
For athletics, Bella has been playing soccer, cheering and competing in track and field since the start of her middle school years. In 8th grade, Bella was awarded the Most Valuable Field Performer. She is currently co-captain of the junior varsity squad.
This summer at UCA camp, Bella was awarded All American, and she will represent Washington School in the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Disney World.
Bella was recently selected to represent Washington School at the Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students and attends Leland United Methodist Church.
Miss Avery Elizabeth Selby is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thad Selby of Lake Village, Arkansas. Her escort for the pep rally was Mr. Cashion Riley Doolittle, son of Dr. and Mrs. Jeffery Samuel Doolittle of Greenville. She was presented on the field by her father.
Avery has been representing her peers on student council throughout middle school and now high school. She was homeroom representative her 6th and 7th grade years and Dance Chairman her 8th grade year. She is currently the Freshman Class Secretary. During her 8th grade year, Avery was given the Citizenship Award, which is an award given to students by their teachers and administrators for displaying good citizenship qualities throughout middle school. Avery is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students and the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy.
As an active participant in athletics, Avery has been a member of the junior varsity cheerleading squad, junior varsity girls basketball team, junior varsity soccer team, and junior varsity girls track team throughout her middle school years. Her 8th grade year, she was awarded Most Valuable Player for soccer and earned the highest scholastic average for softball, soccer, track, cheerleading, and basketball.
Avery is a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church, where she is an active participant in their youth group.
