Local police are searching for the man who they suspect is responsible for the death of another man this week.
The Greenville Police Department issued a warrant Thursday afternoon for 30-year-old black male Deonta Wells.
Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said Wells is wanted for his involvement in the shooting death of 21-year-old black male Jenarius McNeal.
At about 10 p.m. Tuesday, GPD officers found McNeal on the roadway at the corner of Starling and Ninth streets.
Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said both emergency medical personnel and the Washington County Coroner were immediately notified, at which time McNeal was pronounced dead on scene.
The motive for the shooting is unknown, according to Merchant.
“The motive at this time is still under investigation. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Wells is asked to call the Greenville Police Department or Crimestoppers,” Merchant said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 662-378-1515 or Crimestoppers at 662-378-8477.
