Investigation points toward domestic violence in murder, suicide
Domestic violince appears to be the motive of a husband, 54, shooting his wife, 49, and then turning the gun on himself, according to the Greenville Police Department.
Tuesday at 11:32 a.m. GPD was notified of a welfare concern at 718 Highway 82, C&R Grocery.
According to a statement from GPD, a family member was attempting to visit their relative at the convenience store.
“The family member advised they could not get their family member to come to the door and cell phone attempts were unsuccessful,” Assistant Chief Michael Merchant said. “The family member advised they thought they also saw the foot and leg of someone inside the location.”
The store was secure from the inside and the Greenville Fire Department was dispatched to force entry inside the business. Once inside the business, officers located a black female and a black male that appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds. Paramedics were dispatched along with the Washington County Coroner, who declared both subjects deceased.
The Greenville Police Department Criminal Investigation Division was dispatched and began to investigate the incident.
“Based on the preliminary investigation and evidence collected at the location, it appears the male subject shot the female subject, before turning the gun on himself,” Merchant said. “We are not releasing the names at this time due to notifications that are outstanding.”
If anyone has any information about this incident, they are asked to call the Greenville Police Department at 662-378-1515 or Crimestoppers 662-378-TIPS.
