As Resurrection Sunday nears and the Easter season approaches, churches and community activities have been scheduled and the public is invited to attend. The following events were submitted to the Delta Democrat Times:
Thursday, April 18
• First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, will hold a Tenebrae Service at 6:30 p.m. From Latin, the word Tenebrae means “darkness” and commemorates the final hours of Jesus’ life on Earth. During the service, the candles will be extinguished one at a time, including the Christ candle, to symbolize the fading loyalty of the disciples and friends of Jesus. Tonight’s service is open to all members of the community, and the music will include a professional chamber orchestra, an organ, a percussion and a choir. This is the first time the church is holding a Tenebrae service.
• Lake Village First Presbyterian Church, Lake Village at 6 p.m. will offer the music and ministry of Rev. Charles Graham.
• Three nights of Passion Revival with Pastor Tim Rogers. 7 p.m. nightly. Featuring a Good Friday Concert after the revival service. $5 donation with wristband. $1 raffle giveaway. House of Prayer 2500 E. Alexander St., Greenville.
Friday, April 19
• Easter at Impact church 1265 S Main St. at 6:30 will offer communion

• Night of Church School at New Hope First Baptist Church on 705 Nelson St., Greenville at 7-8:30 p.m.. The topic is “GO and TELL,” Matthew 28:1-5. Dr. Robert E. Kimble is the pastor. Ms. Clara Brown is the superintendent of sunday school.
• Leland Deacon Alliance invites you to the Seven Last Words from the Cross Program at St. Peter MB Church on the corner 7th and Main, Leland. From noon to 3 p.m. Church pastor is Rev. Billy D. Robinson. Your attendance will be greatly appreciated. Speakers are Rev. Louis Thomas, Rev. Roosevelt Johnson, Rev. Joe Mays Jr., Rev. S.E. Walker, Rev. Harrison Williams, Rev. O Dell Davis and Rev. Carey Johnson.
City of Greenville Parks and Recreation Easter Egg Hunt at 5p.m. Fun games, door prizes, musical chairs, 20,000 eggs and more at Wards Sports Complex. For more information contact Greenville Sports Commission at 662-378-1670
Saturday, April 20
• Emmanuel Baptist Church is hosting “The Living Supper” at 7 p.m. The event is a drama based on the painting of the Last Supper by Leonardo DaVinci, which is brought to life on stage.
• The Irene Street Festival will be hosting a Easter Resurrection/ Easter Egg Hunt and a Stop the Violence Rally at Albert Hemphill and Charles Moore Neighborhood Community Park on Hwy. 1 North, Parkway Drive and Irene Street from noon to 2 p.m. The hunt begins at noon and will be separated into three age groups: 0-3, 4-7 (no parental assistance) and 8-12 (no parental assistance).
The event will offer egg dyeing and decorating, face painting, fire truck rides, hot dogs and popcorn. Parents are asked to bring baskets and buckets. The admission is free of charge.
Stop the Violence Rally, from 2-4 p.m., is geared towards ending the senseless violence and shootings in Greenville. The purpose is to unite the city, bridge the communication barrier with the Greenville Police Department and our citizens “when you see something, say something”. They are also encouraging the church congregations to help spread this message.
They are asking our political leaders, ministers, church congregations, Greenville police department and Sheriff's department along with the residents of Greenville to join them in this effort.

• Bunnies & Butterflies at Mississippi Children's Museum, 2145 Museum Blvd, Jackson, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Spring has sprung, and everyone at MCM is so excited for our annual Bunnies & Butterflies event in The Literacy Garden! Learn to plant your own garden, discover the science behind bubbles, have your face painted, and create your own unique costume of bunny ears or insect wings. And did we mention that you get to play with live bunnies, too?! Have fun participating in all of these activities and more at this year's Bunnies & Butterflies! All activities are included with $10 general admission or MCM membership.

Sunday, April 21

• Easter Sunrise Service Arms of Mercy, 341 N Beauchamp Extended, Greenville, at 6 a.m. Light breakfast served. We are a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. We provide a 90-day in house program for men who struggle with addiction. There is no charge to our clients. We are funded by private donations
• Easter at Impact church 1265 S Main St. at 10:30 a.m., will offer a drama, worship and message. Egg hunt to follow service.
• Sunrise M.B.C., 76 Wilmot Rd., Greenville, will have the annual Resurrection Service at 11 a.m. and worship under the direction of Bishop Clarence Green.
