The Greenville Arts Council is gearing up for a jam-packed summer full of fun activities for local children to enjoy.
The GAC’s annual summer art camps, which are open to children ages 5-12, start next week and wrap up in July. The cost to participate is $100 per week for non GAC-members and $75 for GAC members.
The art camp sessions are scheduled to run from noon to 5 p.m. June 3-7, June 10-14, July 8-12 and July 15-19.
Children can be dropped off with a sack lunch or they should eat beforehand.
Activities during the art camp sessions include a variety of music, dance and visual art lessons. Some of the teachers lined up for the camps include Sara Wilkerson, Richard Dattle and Amber Thompson.
GAC interim arts council director Ben Luckett said he is happy they are able to offer local youth a place to go that is safe, fun and educational during the summer.
“I think the kids in the community deserve a place to be artistic, and I’m glad we can provide them that place,” said Ben Luckett, interim GAC arts council director.
This year’s arts camps will be sponsored by the Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation, King’s Daughters & Sons Circle Number 2 and Mississippi Arts Commission.

Cocktails at the Carousel
The GAC is also gearing up for Cocktails at the Carousel in June, July and August.
The dates to attend will be from 5-7 p.m. June 21, July 19, and August 16.
The event is free and open to the public, however, drinks will come at a cost, so attendees should be sure to bring some cash. Non-Alcoholic drinks and popcorn will also be available to purchase.
Children — and adults — also are invited to unlimited free rides on the historic 1901 Armitage Herschell Carousel.
“Cocktails at the Cocktails at the Carousel is fun, family-friendly time for parents to bring their kids after work and let them ride the carousel while they drink and mingle with others,” Luckett said.
