Parks and Recreation in Greenville is hosting a series of events aimed at offering something for every resident of Greenville, Corey Holmes, Parks and Recreation director, told the Greenville City Council at the June 4 meeting.
Thursday event is geared toward getting women active and interested in what the parks have to offer.
A Women’s Self Defense class and question & answer session will be held at Elwyn Ward Recreational Center Thursday at 6 p.m.
Awareness and self-defense skills will be taught to participants. The class will teach life-saving techniques and methods to respond both physically and mentally in the time of need and eliminate the danger of “shutting down” in hostile situations.
Holmes said he looks forward to this event because it provides vital and beneficial information.
“The women that will be attending this event will find the potential for control and strength that they already have while participating in this class while our guest speaker and instructor, Kenneth Redfield, will help push them to develop it,” said Kyla Winford, program director for Greenville Park Commission.
Sgt. Kenneth Redfield is the guest speaker for this event.
Redfield says he feels honored and privileged to share his knowledge and training about taking a proactive approach to self preparedness with the citizens of Washington County.
“The citizens can expect to develop a survival mindset along with the skills to defend themselves and family members too and also expect to know what to look out for or identifying situations before they happen,” Redfield said.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information call 662-378-1670 or RSVP on the Greenville Park Commission’s Facebook page.
