More than 300 job offers were extended last month as a result of a Washington County Economic Alliance sponsored job fair.
Cary Karlson, executive director of WCEA, told the Board of Supervisors at the June 17 meeting that the event was a great success for employees and employers.
“More than 800 attended and there were 48 vendors,” Karlson said. “From the jobs fair, there were 312 job offers. Those are strong numbers.”
In addition to the employees hired on the spot at the job fair, Karlson said 25 jobs are available at Nufarm.
A job fair is scheduled for July 10 at Greenville Higher Education Center, GHEC, and interviews will be held from 8-11 p.m.
“Those candidates will take ACT in the afternoon,” Karlson said. “Once they take the test and go through basic skills manufacturing class, Nufarm is looking to hire 25 of those people.”
Karlson said Nufarm currently has 10 employes on staff.
Nufarm has been in the process of preparing operations for the Greenville manufacturing facility, which was announced last year.
Weather has delayed projects to prepare the facility, which was anticipated to be operational by mid-April, according to announcements last year.
Despite the project set-backs, the company began adding staff in April. The positions are expected to offer competitive wages and benefits.
