It’s nearly time to raise your glass for a good cause.
Greater Greenville Habitat for Humanity’s ninth annual “Raise Your Glass to Habitat” event is set to begin 6-8 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Washington County Convention Center, 1040 S. Raceway Road.
This year’s wine and spirit tasting even theme is “The Roaring 20s” and ticket sales are in full swing; advance tickets cost $20 and tickets purchased upon arrival will cost $30.
Anjohnette Gibbs and Mike Williams, who are co-chairing this year’s event, said they are looking forward to the evening’s festivities.
“It’s our ninth annual fundraiser for Greenville Habitat for Humanity and all the proceeds go to Habitat to continue to build Habitat houses,” Gibbs said. “We’re working on house number 21 now, the family has been selected and they’re putting in their ’sweat equities’ as well into the home.”
A nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states and in more than 70 countries around the world, Habitat’s vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Habitat works toward this vision by building and improving homes in partnership with individuals and families in need of a decent and affordable place to live.
Gibbs said their goal each year with the fundraiser is to continue to build the houses and the end of last year, the organization added a component in which homes can receive repairs.
“We had about 22 applicants who submitted to receive home repairs so we hope to begin that process this year as well,” Gibbs said.
Giving the annual event a theme, Gibbs said, is to add an element of fun to it.
“Last year, it was a Mardi Gras theme, this year, it’s the roaring 20s theme, and everyone who attends the event gets a glass with the Habitat for Humanity logo on it,” she shared.
Another important aspect of organizing the event is the sponsors, Gibbs said.
“Thanks to the support of our sponsors, each year we raise about $20,000 plus, and so the more we raise the more we can do toward home building and repairs so our sponsors are critical to the work we do. Thanks to them, we continue to build houses from the sponsorship and the support of the community,” she said.
There will be over 250 wines, liquors and hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants for event goers to enjoy.
Attendees must be 21 years of age or older to participate.
