I will do my 100 percent Best. I will Never give up. Win or Lose. I will have fun and play hard. I will congratulate the other team when they win. I love to win, but Not to brag after all ….. It’s just a game!
These words were written by Tyler Watson from his memory.
Watson was one of a number of children who participated this past week in the 9th Annual Morris Boys and Girls Basketball Camp at Leland High School.
The camp was under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Ella Morris who spent 22 years coaching at Coahoma Community College and a lifetime of inspiring young people.
“I watch basketball all year. I watch high school and junior high school basketball, and they don’t seem to have the fundamentals like they used to,” Coach Morris said. “I am here to teach the kids the right way to play.”
While Coach Morris talked about fundamentals for a moment, the children at the camp said they learned more about how to be the best they can be.
“She is such a great coach,” 10-year-old Kenneth Sanders said. “She is always encouraging me to keep my head up.”
D’Nyla Marshall, another child at the camp, said, “Coach Morris has taught me about leadership, and how to be a better person.”
Coach Morris said she knows the children at the camp can achieve great things if they work at it.
“Kids today are a little different,” Coach Morris said. “I guess it is about behavior and everything. But, I know they all can still grow up and be great people.”
