There are still a few weeks left for folks to buy fresh produce grown by local farmers.
“Our farmers have produce still available,” Main Street Director Gretchen Giachelli said.
The Greenville Farmers’ Market, located at the corner of Washington Avenue and North Street, opened in early June and is expected to last through at least the end of the month.
Giachelli said the end date is never set in stone because it all depends on what local growers have in stock.
“As long as the farmers have fresh produce available, we continue to let them open that way they can keep selling to the community,” Giachelli previously said.
Locals this year have been selling a variety of items, such as fruits and vegetables, fresh eggs, homemade salsas and pepper sauce, canned jams and jellies, local honey and more.
“My farmers have told me they’ve done very well this season, they’ve been very happy with everything. They’ve had some great produce and vegetables, I’ve had a lot of people in the community tell me they’ve been excited about farmers’ market.”
Gretchen said they are always eager to have more locals participate, no matter what they sell, including dairy products, baked goods and more.
“We encourage anyone who makes something to unique, give us a call so we can talk it over,” she said.
It’s not too late to sign up, either.
Vendors can choose from a one-time $15 fee for their booth or they can choose to pay $35 per month.
Applications can be found online at mainstreetgreenville.com or picked up at their Central Street office.
Once a new green space is created in downtown Greenville, Gretchen said Main Street is making plans to create a new community pavilion, which she said she hopes will expand their farmers’ market.
“We will have a new community pavilion, that’s something Main Street is dedicated to doing. The new community pavilion will house the farmers’ market,” she said.
Giachelli said Main Street is also making plans to bring in a chef to the farmers’ market who can do cooking demonstrations with the fresh produce available.
“We hope to be able to bring in a chef who can do cooking demonstrations once a month or so,” she said. “That way, they can show people what you can make very quickly, very easily with the fresh produce and vegetables your local farmers bring in.”
