The St. Joseph Catholic School junior varsity basketball team finished with a perfect 15-0 record this season.
The Fighting Irish capped off their season with a 52-10 victory over Greenville Christian Saturday at their District 4-AA Tournament at Manchester Academy.
St. Joe head coach Leonidas ‘Delaine’ Brown said his team’s strong defense was the strength of his team all season long.
Brown’s St. Joe teams had made the district championship game three other times in the last six seasons, but were unable to lift the trophy until Saturday.
“We finally got it done, and I am really proud of this team,” the coach said.
This year’s St. Joe junior varsity team was led by four freshmen (C.J.. Moore, Jerrian King, Christian Foster and Donnie Smith) who are already making an impact on the St. Joe varsity team. King, for example, has been one of the Irish’s leading scorers in a few varsity games this season.
“They are a great group of young men to coach,” Brown said.
