Claire Siebert is only 13 years old, but she has already accomplished a lot in her young golf career.
Claire will be an eighth grader at Washington School next school year. Her golfing accomplishments include:
• She participated in Drive Chip Putt, and advanced from local competitions in Jackson to regional competitions held at the TPC Louisiana course in New Orleans in 2016 and 2017.
• She has won the GGCC club championship overall (boys and girls) in 2016 and 2019, and the girls championship in 2017 and 2018.
• She currently competed on US Kids Golf Local Tours, and in 2019 she came in 4th on the Jackson tour for her age group.
• She is currently competing on a US Kids Golf Spring Little Rock Tour.
Claire began playing golf when she was seven years old, and she credits Greenville Golf and Country Club professionals Stephen Driggers, Nick Ellison and Keith Maher for helping her to improve.
“Golf is my favorite sport because I love how each golf course is different,” she said. “It is fun to go to a new place and play something different. You cannot say that about sports like tennis and basketball.”
Claire’s next big tournament will be a home game when she competes at the Future Tour Championship next weekend at the Greenville Golf and Country Club.
This spring Claire was expected to be a part of the Washington School varsity golf team. However, her season was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
All the golf tournaments Claire has participated in recently have been played under strict social distancing rules. For example, golfers must stay six feet apart at all times and golfers are not allowed to pull the pin out of the cup.
Claire hopes to keep working hard at her golf game so she can one day play college golf.
“I love this sport, and I try to practice every single day,” she said.
