A man has been charged with murder for a shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition.
At 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of West Alexander Street in reference to two shot people.
Upon arrival, Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said officers found two black males, a 21-year-old and a 19-year-old, both Greenville residents, wounded on the sidewalk.
Both men, whose names have not been released, were transported by Pafford EMS to Delta Regional Medical Center, where the 21-year-old died. The 19-year-old was flown to another hospital, where he is in critical condition.
Due to the circumstances of the case, Merchant said they could not report which hospital the victim was flown to.
During the investigation being conducted by GPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, Merchant said 22-year-old Joshua Johnson, of Greenville, was identified as being involved and was arrested without incident.
Johnson has been charged with aggravated assault and murder. His bond was set Monday afternoon at $250,000 by Judge Michael Prewitt. He has not posted bond as of Tuesday evening.
“The motive appears to be prior incidents between the parties involved,” Merchant said.
Merchant said the investigation is ongoing and other arrests may follow.
