Ever since Brent Dillon bought his first car when he was 14, he and his older brother, Justin, have had a love affair with car racing.
Driving his white No. 7 Late Model Crate car, Brent, now 28, has worked his way to become one of the best drivers in the area. This season he has already won two of the four races he has competed in.
Justin, 33, meanwhile, has been able to turn his great gift for gab into the position as the head announcer at the Greenville Speedway. While Justin enjoys calling his brother’s races, he throws just as much passion into every race he announces.
With his trademark line “GEEEEEEEEET IT!,” Justin has worked to become a fan favorite at the Greenville Speedway when he became the head announcer last season.
“Justin likes to run his mouth, and he is definitely made for the job,” Brent said with a laugh. “He has always been the more talkative one, while I have always been the more quiet one.”
Justin took the announcing gig last year when the Speedway’s new owner, Carl Kilgore, told him the track needed a new dose of enthusiasm.
“Carl Kilgore came to me and told me he needed somebody to help fill the seats and give people a show that they are paying for,” Justin said.
While Justin is behind the microphone at the Greenville Speedway, when the track is not hosting an event for a weekend, he travels to other race tracks and gets behind the wheel.
Whether behind the wheel or the microphone, the sport of race car driving has helped the brothers’ friendship grow to great heights.
“When a lot of kids were out drinking or out doing drugs, we were in the garage working on our cars,” Justin said. “We are the best friends in the world, and it has kept us so tight for all this time.
“To look back at two boys who did not have nothing but a four cylinder and a dream, and in 10 years we have already accomplished so much in the sport we love,” Justin said.
