The Greenville City Council sped through a brief special-call budget session Monday morning, approving several financial measures and reaffirming its approach to upcoming community partners budget discussions.
Mayor Errick D. Simmons opened the meeting by noting that the next two days of budget talks will focus on personnel matters and presentations from community partners, encouraging department heads to submit any requests for council consideration.
The first order of business was to approve an engagement letter with legal services from Butler Show LLP to assist the city in issues related to an Environmental Protection Agency consent decree. Simmons said he and Steve Osso, Financial Consultant, had met with the attorney to help the city navigate requirements under the EPA order. The council approved the measure unanimously.
The council then approved paying two claims to Hancock Whitney Bank:
- $1,800 for the 2018A general obligation bond fee
- $800 for the 2018B general obligation bond fee
Ward 4 Councilman Lurann Thomas- Kingdom moved for approval, and the measure passed without opposition.
The special called meeting ends with a closed session due to a personal matter.
