On Monday, February 23rd, a group of young athletes from Greenville Parks & Recreation stepped onto one of basketball’s biggest stages — FEDEXFORUM, home of the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Greenville Jr. Grizzlies, representing the city’s 12U basketball divisions, traveled to Memphis for an exclusive, game-day experience that allowed them to see firsthand what the next level looks like. Dressed in their Memphis jerseys, the youth athletes had the opportunity to be on the court prior to tipoff, take photos and get autographs, experience the half-time tunnel, and simply soak in the atmosphere of an NBA arena.
For several players, it was their first time inside a professional sports venue. The trip served as more than just entertainment — it was exposure. Players observed pregame routines, watched elite warmups, and experienced the discipline and preparation that comes with competing at the highest level. Moments like these are designed to inspire, motivate, and expand the vision of what is possible for Greenville’s youth.
“This is what partnerships are about,” said Kyla Winford, Director of Greenville Parks & Recreation. “Creating access. Creating opportunity. Letting our kids see the bigger picture.”
The Greenville Jr. Grizzlies program continues to grow through community support and regional partnerships, focusing not only on skill development but also on confidence, teamwork, and leadership.
Monday night was another milestone — one that placed Greenville’s youth on an NBA floor and reminded them that hard work can take them far beyond their home court.
"For Greenville Parks & Recreation, it was a proud moment of representation, unity, and belief in the next generation,” said Winford.
