GREENVILLE - School district officials and administrators at Greenville Public Schools are
investigating a series of isolated events which involved safety threats to multiple buildings in our
school system.
Early this morning an unidentified person notified school officials of a person threatening to
"shoot up the school" and bring a gun to school.
The matter was quickly and properly handled by district officials and leadership. GPSD wants our parents and supporters to know there never was a weapon on any of our campuses. We want our students, staff, and community to know that the situation has been addressed and we will operate school under our normal procedures and protocols. As a safety measure, GPSD placed campuses on lockdown with no movement or visitation allowed while local law enforcement agencies assessed the situation.
Superintendent Dr. Glenn J. Dedeaux said above all, safety and supervision remain a "top priority" and intact throughout the district. "We will be on high alert and work in collaboration with GPD Chief Turner to maintain an extra law enforcement presence for our school zones. The district is working closely with the Greenville Police Department along with the Washington County Sheriff's Office on this matter to ensure incidents such as this are not repeated.
GPSD Chief Public Safety Officer Meesha Lessie said anyone making fake threats results that those can become real consequences and GPSD will prosecute any threat, real or fake, to the fullest extent of the law. "We take all threats seriously, and any threats against the school or district will be disciplined. Parents please emphasize the importance of not following social media trends especially the ones that causes harm to others.'
This matter remains under investigation with the Greenville Police Department. Anyone with information is encouraged to call GPD at (662) 378-1515 or GPSD Campus Police (662) 334-7000
