For the first time ever, the Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA will be offering a series of women’s self defense classes — four total sessions — for teens and adults.
Classes are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 7, Jan. 14, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11.
Participation cost for members is $10 per session or $35 for the entire series and for nonmembers, $15 per session or $50 for the entire series.
According to an announcement issued by Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA, in the forthcoming series, students will learn techniques of self defense from Stephen Davenport.
The announcement also highlighted Davenport’s 32 years of training and experience.
“We are excited the Y can bring this to the community and are glad we have someone like Stephen Davenport who has this expertise that he can help us provide this at the YMCA. And, so that women can feel safe and like they can protect themselves,” said CEO Ginger Chaffinch.
