GREENVILLE, Mississippi - Jean Barker Abbas, 71, of Greenville, passed away on February 28, 2026. She was born February 13, 1955, to the late Alison and Paul Barker in Bloomington, Minnesota, as the oldest of four children.
Jean graduated from Mayo Medical School in 1981 and went on to become a Family Practice Physician in Greenville from 1990 until her retirement in 2021. She adopted the Mississippi Delta as her home. Jean was beloved by her patients and best known in the community as "Dr. Barker." She was a devoted Christian and a long-standing member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents. Jean left behind her husband Hamed Abbas; four children Noah Abbas of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Samuel (Anna Claire) Abbas of Birmingham, Alabama, Alia (Charles Dean) Abbas of Birmingham, and Amira Abbas of Washington, D.C; four grandchildren Will, Isaac, Amelia and Layla; her sisters Martha Takata and Melanie Moore; and her brother Philip Barker.
