GREENVILLE, Mississippi - Jean-Marie Hill, 86, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2025, in Newport News, Virginia. A lifelong advocate for education and community service, she retired as Executive Director of WWISCAA after decades of leadership.
Her legacy includes numerous programs for disadvantaged families and the annual Jean-Marie Hill Client Self-Sufficiency Award. A devoted member of Greater St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, Mrs. Hill led with grace and purpose, serving as the Young People’s Division (YPD) Director and nurturing generations of youth in faith and fellowship. She also held a long-standing position as Trustee, reflecting her deep commitment to the church’s governance and stewardship. Beyond her formal roles, she chaired and co-chaired many church anniversaries and special programs, always seeking to uplift the collective spirit of the church.
She is survived by her children Henry (Anita) Hill of Yorktown, Virginia; Mary Hill (Emmanuel Onifade) of Douglasville, Georgia; grandchildren: Veronica Brizant Stewart and Jaye Johnson of Dallas, Texas; Lauren Nicole Hill of Yorktown; Henry Hill Jr. of Richmond, Virginia and Nicole (Kyle) LeBlanc of Atlanta, Georgia; godson Larrence Williams of Greenville; and great-grandchildren, Kemari Hughes and Bria Hughes of Forest and Beau LeBlanc and Monroe LeBlanc of Atlanta. She also leaves her beloved sisters Rose (Regal) DuBose of Poquoson, Virginia, Eloise Mason Solomon of Phoenix, Arizona; JerriAnn Harris (Glen Guyton) of Dolton, Illinois and the memory of Marilyn Brown (sister) and Brandi Hughes (granddaughter); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched.
In his poem, Paradise Lost, John Milton wrote, “grace was in all her steps, heaven in her eyes. In her every gesture, was dignity and love.” This is how Jean-Marie will be remembered - for her elegance, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others.
Jean-Marie Hill Legacy Scholarship - To continue Jean-Marie’s lifelong commitment to education and uplifting the community, the family has established the Jean-Marie Hill Legacy Scholarship. This scholarship will benefit individuals affiliated with organizations close to her heart – WWISCAA and Greater St. Matthew A.M.E. Church.
In Lieu of Flowers - The family kindly requests that your tax-deductible donations be made in Jean-Marie’s honor. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Greater Saint Matthew A.M.E. Church, 512 Nelson Street Greenville, Mississippi.
