Jimmy Phillips Sr.
GREENVILLE — Memorial graveside services for Jimmy Gregory Phillips Sr., 63, of Greenville, were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Vaiden Cemetery, Vaiden. There was a visitation from 10 p.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 29, at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022, at St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson. He fought hard to stay with his family and although his spirit was strong, his earthly body was tired.
Jimmy was born May 5, 1959, in Greenville, to Jimmie and Maydeen Phillips. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1977. On July 15, 1979, he married Shirley Welch at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Greenville. Together, they had two sons, Jimmy Gregory Phillips Jr. and John Patrick Phillips. Jimmy worked at Sears Auto Center as a mechanic for the majority of his career until retirement. Following retirement, Jimmy spent the last 13 years as a dedicated and loving caregiver to his son “Greg.”
Jimmy was an avid hunter and enjoyed being outdoors in the place he loved most, Carroll County. When not outdoors he enjoyed spending time with the ones he loved most, his wife, his two sons, and his granddaughter. He was a good man, husband, and father and took great pride in being a grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmie Lewis Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley Phillips; two sons, Jimmy Gregory Phillips Jr. and John Patrick “J.P.” Phillips (Cassidy); granddaughter, Adalyn Grace Phillips; mother, Maydeen Phillips Lee; siblings, Lewis Phillips (Pam), Ken Phillips (Amy) and Tammie Hudgins (Kerry); and many nieces and nephews.
