LELAND — Folks in Leland are preparing for what many consider one of their favorite meals of the year at next week’s annual St. James Parish Fair.
Less than a week away, the parish fair will not only serve plates of spaghetti and meatballs, but also a plethora of activities for people of all ages to enjoy.
The decades-old parish fair will take place at St. James’ Catholic Church, 312 E. Third St., which serves as the church’s fundraiser.
Starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, $12 plates of spaghetti and meatballs made with a homemade sauce, salad and a drink will be served as take-out or dine-in at the parish hall.
Various booths offering a range of items from whole ribeyes, homemade cakes, 18-inch teddy bears, hamburgers, goldfish and more will start at 6 p.m.
Mike Columbus, of Boone Funeral Home, said he has been helping organize this fair since the early 1940s. Like in years in past, Columbus said he once again looks forward to this parish fair and his plate of spaghetti.
“Year after year, my answer will never change. This is the best spaghetti and meatballs recipe in the Mississippi Delta,” he said.
There will be a silent auction, where different items will be available for auction. There are $1 dollar raffle tickets for cash prizes: first place is $750 dollars, second place is $250 dollars and third place is $100 dollars.
For the $100 raffle ticket, the winner will be given $10,000 dollars.
The drawings will be done at the end of the fair. Winners don’t have to present to receive the prize.
