“Shocked” is probably not the right word to use in my response to the DDT regarding the actions of Supervisors Brooks, Benson and Redmond. “Concerned” would be better.
“Concerned,” because they admitted that the only invoice on the docket they looked at was Shamoon’s.
What kind of message were they trying to send? What if some invoice they really should have questioned just slid by? Does that speak fiscal responsibility to you?
Responsible supervisors would be concerned and reviewing the invoices for thousands of dollars they approved, especially since they are 10% over an already expanded $42 million dollar budget, with just three months left to operate. Not paying Shamoon’s invoice was a personal vendetta because I have been a thorn in their side, so to speak, for the last four years, questioning the way they voted when it was clearly not in the best interest of our county. I spoke out when Brooks, Benson and Redmond wanted to buy Cypress Hills Tennis Club for $350,000. Right! Let’s take that property off the tax rolls and add that ongoing expense to a budget that’s already blown to smithereens due to overspending. Even Sheriff Gaston commented, If you want a pool, build one out at the Sportsplex. Wait, the Sportsplex closed, remember?
I stated, ‘We already have a pool and plenty of empty tennis courts around town not being utilized - all free to use. We don’t need to buy Cypress Hills.’ We may not be able to do anything about Washington DC right now, but we can certainly do something about Washington County! Please vote in the Democratic Primary. Let’s elect people who will run our county like the business that it is – people who will pay the bills they are legally responsible to pay, like ours!
