The Mississippi River Marathon is thrilled to announce that thanks to a generous grant from King's Daughters and Sons Circle #2, children ages 18 and under will have the opportunity to participate in a training program and run the 5K at
the Mississippi River Marathon at no charge.
This remarkable contribution will help remove financial barriers for young runners, allowing them to engage in a healthy and empowering experience. The training program is designed to encourage physical activity, build confidence, and promote community involvement among youth in the region.
“We are deeply grateful to King’s Daughters and Sons Circle #2 for their commitment to our community and to the well-being of our youth,” said Sharon Freeman, President of Mississippi River Marathon Board. “Their support will enable young people to participate in an event that fosters not only physical fitness but also a sense of achievement and belonging. We will offer the 5K Training Program to all local schools, and we will encourage children to begin their training program in December to adequately prepare for the race.”
The Mississippi River Marathon draws over 600 participants from across the region and beyond. With the support of organizations like King’s Daughters and Sons Circle #2, the marathon continues to grow, offering more opportunities for community engagement and personal growth.
The grant will specifically fund the training program, providing young participants with the guidance and resources needed to prepare for the 5K. The program is open to all children in the area, ensuring that every young person has the chance to cross the finish line, regardless of their financial situation.
